Frame Game

Frame Game

This past weekend I feel {slightly} guilty to say that I was off galavanting in Palm Springs with Beau and my parents, while Kris stayed back to work on the house.  This man has dedication and never ceases to amaze me with what he can pull off!  He framed 2 rooms and claims 2 secrets to  success.  First, a laser level is a must to shoot lines (sounds fun) on the ground and ceiling to make sure the framed wall is perfectly straight, or "plumb."  Second, YouTube as the go-to-how-to resource. :)

The only thing I can add to this part of the process is about wood sourcing.  Deforestation is a huge issue in many parts of the world, particularly illegal deforestation.  This means trees are illegally harvested from regions that are protected, which destroys habitats and displaces the animals and people that live in those regions.  Horrible stuff.  The solution is forest certification, which makes sure tree harvesting is done legally and sustainably, so that the land will continue to produce trees.  Good news is that retailers like Home Depot have sustainable forestry policies so you can be assured the wood you're buying is from a legitimate source.  Most important things to look for are the country the wood is from (opt for North America) or stamp from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) that certifies the full chain-of-custody of the wood from the forest to the shelf.

Two bedrooms starting to take shape!

Look for the Forest Stewardship Council logo on wood products.
